Diversity in Science

Increasing and retaining diversity in science, and, more importantly, working to create a physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe and stimulating environment for all scientists is vitally important. To this end I have compiled a list of links including resources and organizations that work to increase diversity and/or support underrepresented minorities in STEM.

This video by the Royal Society addresses understanding unconscious bias.

This page links to a blog written by Ambika Kamath, a PhD student at Harvard University. She has compiled quite a list of diversity resources (Thanks Ambika!)

The American Association of University Women works to support women across academic disciplines through advocacy and direct financial fellowships.

The Society for advancing Chicanos/Hispanics and Native American's in STEM

oSTEM is a national society dedicated to educating and fostering leadership for LGBTQA communities in the STEM fields

NSF has compiled some excellent data about who is receiving doctorates in the USA. Links below are to the main data page or to table 8, which I found particularly useful.

Also from NSF, data about Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering
